ERIE, PA – The Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) announced $4 million in grant funding for the establishment of regional recovery hubs to enhance resources for individuals in  recovery and promote recovery within communities across Pennsylvania.

The funding will allow each regional recovery hub to conduct an initial needs assessment for recovery support services in their specific region, including an estimate of individuals in need of these services and an analysis of their availability and accessibility. In addition, the hubs will develop a strategic plan, partnering with local organizations, that focuses on the importance of supporting multiple pathways to and through recovery, and will seek to promote recovery services in areas including peer support, family support, and self-care.

The Erie County Office of Drug and Alcohol received one of these grants to establish the first Regional Recovery Hub for Erie County. The hub’s purpose is to assess and identify the recovery needs in the community.

A team of professionals were selected to build Erie County’s Regional Recovery Hub. They gathered recovery information through various formats (e.g., individually, group settings, surveys, etc.) from Erie County treatment providers, community members, leaders, and stakeholders. Partnering with Mercyhurst University’s Thomas J. Gamble Civic Institute, a needs assessment was conducted covering the needs, concerns, and ideas expressed. This will help DDAP better understand the needs for Erie County and allow for more growth opportunities in the recovery community. Throughout this process, the recovery hub will also support the Erie County community by providing recovery resources and other forms of technical assistance.

Erie County’s Regional Recovery Hub has hosted several meetings over the past few months to complete a needs assessment. On February 28, 2024, the Regional Recovery Hub will offer a meeting at the Blasco Library’s H.O. Hirt Auditorium from 2:00 to 4:00 pm to review the results of the needs assessment and to discuss the top 5 identified recovery-related priority areas with the community.
