International Coastal Cleanup planned for Sept. 19

ERIE, PA – Volunteers are needed to help with the 18th annual International Coastal Cleanup taking place Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon at the following locations around Erie County:

  • Raccoon Creek Park, Springfield Township
  • Avonia Beach Park, Fairview Township
  • Erie Bluffs State Park/Elk Creek Access, Girard Township
  • Walnut Creek Access and Manchester Beach, Fairview Township
  • Asbury Woods along Upper Walnut Creek, Millcreek Township
  • Presque Isle State Park, Millcreek Township
  • Frontier Park along Cascade Creek, City of Erie
  • Belle Valley Presbyterian Church along upper Mill Creek, Millcreek Township
  • West and East Bayfront and downtown City of Erie
  • Wintergreen Gorge along upper Fourmile Creek, Harborcreek Township
  • Lawrence Park Golf Club along lower Fourmile Creek, Lawrence Park Township
  • Headwaters Park at the Erie County Conservation District, Millcreek Township
  • Shades Beach Park, Harborcreek Township
  • North East Marina and Freeport Beach along Twentymile Creek, North East Township
  • Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, Edinboro Borough
  • Bridger Park, Millcreek Township
  • East Avenue Boat Launch and Beach, City of Erie
  • Glinodo Center along Sevenmile Creek, Harborcreek Township

The International Coastal Cleanup event is organized by Erie County government and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Coastal Resources Management Program, with support from the Ocean Conservancy, and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful.All volunteers are encouraged to register for the cleanup by visiting https://eriecountypa.gov/departments/planning-and-community-development/programs/keep-erie-county-beautiful/international-coastal-cleanup/ or by contacting Joy Fronzoli at 814-451-7332 or jfronzoli@eriecountypa.gov.

Assisting with the costs of disposal for the materials collected, Waste Management will be providing trash collection and disposal at most of the sites for the litter collected, and Bridgestone Americas has provided the Erie International Coastal Cleanup with a Tire4ward grant to help with any tires collected during the event.

During 2019’s event, more than 900 volunteers cleaned up almost 3,000 pounds of trash in Erie County.
