Erie County reports 9 new positive cases of COVID-19; cumulative total is 551

Erie, PA – County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper and Erie County Department of Health announce nine new positive cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Erie County as of 12:01 a.m. on June 24.

The total cumulative cases of COVID-19 in Erie County is 551, with 444 recovered cases, 95 active cases, 10,189 negatives and 12 deaths.

Updated data can be found on the chart on the “Positive Cases in Erie County” page on eriecountypa.gov.

Of the cumulative cases, 57% are female and 43% are male. The breakdown of cases by race/ethnicity is as follows:

  • 48% White residents
  • 35% African American/Black residents
  • 5% Asian residents
  • 2% Other
  • 10% Unknown

Twelve percent of the cases are Hispanic, of any race; 75% are not Hispanic; and 13% are unknown.

The age breakdown of the cumulative cases looks like this:

  • 3% are ages 0-4
  • 2% are ages 5-9
  • 6% are ages 10-18
  • 14% are ages 19-24
  • 41% are ages 25-49
  • 21% are ages 50-64
  • 12% are ages 65 and older
  • Note: Percent values may not total 100 due to rounding.

Charlotte Berringer, director of community health services at the Erie County Department of Health, joined the County Executive today to provide an update on contact tracing in the county and testing at long-term care facilities. She also stressed the importance of masking and social distancing.

In addition, Dr. Howard A. Nadworny, infectious disease physician and a consultant for the Erie County Department of Health, shared an update on the wastewater testing taking place to expand the tracking of COVID-19 in the county.

Consistent with Wednesday updates, the County Executive reminds everyone to complete the 2020 Census.

Erie County is at 69% completion, and the City of Erie is at 61%. Residents can visit census.gov or call 844-330-2020 to complete the census.
