Erie County reports 10 new positive cases of COVID-19; cumulative total is 408

Erie, PA – County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper and Erie County Department of Health announce 10 new positive cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Erie County as of 3 p.m. on June 9.
The total cumulative cases of COVID-19 in Erie County as of 3 p.m. on June 9 is 408, with 243 recovered cases, 157 active cases and eight deaths.
Updated data can be found on the chart on the “Positive Cases in Erie County” page on eriecountypa.gov.
Of the cumulative cases, 54% are female and 46% are male. The breakdown of cases by race/ethnicity is as follows:
- 51% White residents
- 34% African American/Black residents
- 6% Asian residents
- 2% Multiracial residents
- 2% Other
- 5% Unknown
Twelve percent of the cases are Hispanic, of any race; 81% are not Hispanic; and 7% are unknown.
The age breakdown of the cumulative cases looks like this:
- 3% are ages 0-4
- 1% are ages 5-9
- 5% are ages 10-18
- 13% are ages 19-24
- 44% are ages 25-49
- 22% are ages 50-64
- 11% are ages 65 and older
- Note: Percent values may not total 100 due to rounding.
“Please continue to keep a 6-foot distance from those who do not live inside your home, wash your hands with soap and water frequently, sanitize surfaces regularly, and wear a mask if you go near anyone who does not live inside your home,” Dahlkemper said.
Melissa Lyon, director of the Erie County Department of Health, and Charlotte Berringer, director of community health services at the Erie County Department of Health, joined the County Executive today to provide an update on the reporting structure of cases and clarification on pre-symptomatic disease spread vs. asymptomatic disease.
Consistent with Wednesday updates, the County Executive reminds everyone to complete the 2020 Census.
Erie County is at 69% completion, and the City of Erie is at 60%. Residents can visit census.gov or call 844-330-2020 to complete the census. Training sites are currently being organized for census employees. Residents can apply online at Census Careers.
