Erie County Courthouse extends limited closure to public through Feb. 28; scheduled court hearings and appointments will still take place

Erie, PA – County Administration announces the Erie County Courthouse will once again extend its partial closure to the public through Sunday, Feb. 28, as it continues to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic in Erie County. All civil or criminal court hearings and appointments will continue as scheduled.
The court administration is taking these steps:
- Effective Monday, Feb. 8 through Friday, Feb. 19, Criminal Trial Term schedules will commence according to President Judge Walsh’s administrative order.
- Jurors are to report as directed.
- All other trial terms and court schedules shall remain as scheduled.
- Judges will determine the terms of all other cases on a case-by-case basis.

The public is encouraged to utilize electronic services through eriecountypa.gov and to meet virtually when possible.
“The administration continues to closely monitor the number of COVID-19 cases in Erie County, and although we are starting to see the numbers decrease, we believe it is still in the best interest of the public and county employees to minimize the number of people inside the courthouse for the time being,” said Erie County Director of Administration Gary N. Lee. “As always, we appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation in ensuring a safe environment for all. Please continue to follow the guidelines of wearing masks, keeping a 6-foot distance from others, washing hands frequently, limiting gatherings and staying home when feeling ill.”
County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper and the administration continue to work with President Judge Walsh and court administration to assess COVID-19 safety protocols at the courthouse.
