Dog Licenses

Notice

Please be advised that Pennsylvania State Law mandates that all dogs must be licensed at the time of purchase (legal at eight weeks), or by three months old, whichever comes first. A dog owner can be fined up to $500 for each unlicensed dog plus court costs.

ATTENTION CITY OF ERIE RESIDENCE

If you live in the City of Erie, you must purchase your dog license from the Erie City Treasurer, 626 State Street, Room 105, Erie, Pennsylvania 16501, 814-870-1214, or visit the City of Erie website at www.erie.pa.us.

Annual licenses are valid from January 1st – December 31st and are sold from December 1st – November 30th.

License Fees

Annual Regular license – $10.80

Annual Senior/Disability license – $8.80 –Disability license requires an Affidavit

Lifetime regular license – $52.80

Lifetime Senior/Disability license – $36.80 –Disability license requires an Affidavit

How to Apply

Annual Dog License by Mail:   

1) Complete and print the Annual Dog License Application

2) Make a check or money order payable to Erie County Bureau of Revenue

3) Mail application and check/money order to:

Other Options to Obtain an Annual Dog License: (A convenience charge may apply)

1) Visit one of our Sub-agents: 2026 Erie County Sub Agents to find the closest one. Please note Cash or Check only, unless sub agent lists otherwise.

2) Visit our Online portal at: https://www.doglicenses.us/PA/Erie/, where you can apply and pay online.

How to Apply for a Lifetime Dog License:    

Dogs must be microchipped to be eligible for a lifetime dog license. Lifetime Licenses can be purchased by mail or in person at the Erie County Revenue Office.

1) Complete and print the Lifetime License Application

2) Print Permanent Identification Verification Form  (Microchip Form)

A veterinarian or representative from a PA-licensed kennel must complete the Permanent Identification Verification Form.  Please make sure to obtain the signature of the person implanting the microchip or scanning the microchip. A Veterinarian Practice number or a PA Kennel License number is required to be put on the form. Also, veterinarians must supply the address and phone number of their actual practice.

3) Mail application, a check or money order, and microchip form to the address below:
