The Erie County Department of Health helps provide guidance in the area of infectious disease surveillance, investigations and interventions using public health principles and epidemiological methodologies to health-care personnel and the community.
Surveillance
All Pennsylvania healthcare practitioners and healthcare facilities are required by law to report certain diseases and conditions to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Disease reporting helps identify outbreaks that may require immediate public health intervention as well as provide a better understanding of disease trends and patterns to support program development, policy decision-making, and resource allocation.
