Fugitive Extraditions

County Detectives are charged with completing the process of extraditing fugitives-from-justice suspects from the location where the suspect is apprehended back to Erie County.

The process is long and complex, but every effort is made to obtain a criminal suspect from another state or country to answer for crimes committed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  The process involves entering suspects into the National Crime Information Center, corresponding with the jurisdiction that apprehends the fugitive, coordinating with out-of-state courts and countries to begin the legal process, applying for a Governor’s Warrant, having the warrant served on the fugitive, and then arranging for transportation of the fugitive to Erie County.
